OUR HISTORY

Just before the world was plunged into a global lockdown due to COVID-19, the Tribulum team had committed to taking over new restaurant premises. We quickly adapted and realised that there would be a demand for high-quality home meal deliveries and so Contact Catering (formerly No Contact Catering) was born!

We did not rest there though and during this time we continued to formulate the plans for our new restaurant. At the heart of our business is Executive Head Chef, Jonnie Pratt, who set out to provide something different for the Algarve . A unique and imaginative offering, Tribulum takes pride in using homegrown and homemade produce to create exciting dishes paired with carefully-chosen wines and skillfully-made cocktails.

After much deliberation and consideration, the name Tribulum was chosen.  As an ancient piece of farming machinery, the word seemed fitting as we grow our own produce, herbs, fruit and vegetables. You can see a beautiful 300-year old tribulum in pride of place in the restaurant.

Tribulum is relaxed and stylish with a nod towards traditional Portuguese icons and design. The restaurant also features stunning artwork from the Artcatto Gallery in Loule.

Through these challenging circumstances the team have created something outstanding and we look forward to welcoming you to Tribulum soon. With a creative kitchen and a stunning setting, you will quickly discover that it is a great place to be!

jonnie pratt - chef

Raised on the outskirts of Dublin with a large market garden, it was only natural that Jonnie turned to food to express his creativity and skill whilst developing his enthusiasm for entertaining and delighting guests.

Having worked in Dublin, the Caribbean, New York, Portugal, Switzerland and Ireland, Jonnie has excelled in a wide variety of international establishments. Jonnie has extensive experience as a chef within restaurants, 5-star hotels, cruise ships, outside catering, cookery schools and also in private dining settings.

Jonnie has a strong culinary foundation and is the perfect person to lead this venture ensuring that the food and service meet his own high standards. Always seeking to source and support local suppliers, Jonnie prides himself on understanding the produce used and making as much of the offering as possible from scratch.

Jonnie has a renowned history of exceeding customer expectations and his vast array of knowledge and experience in the kitchen is evident in every dish served at Tribulum!


Rolo (& Derek) - Masco

Visit Tribulum and you might be lucky enough to meet everyone’s favourite big, friendly chocolate labrador, Rolo. Part of the Tribulum family since he was a tiny pup, Rolo has grown with the restaurant and is a frequent visitor along with his trusted companion, Derek!

Leandro is passionate about his job in hospitality. He is always looking forward to making sure every Tribulum costumer feels at home and leaves wanting to comeback.
